Since 2007 I have been working in the Dark Energy Survey (DES) through the DES Brazil collaboration.
Since 2009 I have been working in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III (SDSS III) through the Brazilian Participation Group
DES is a photometric survey that by 2011 will start to map 5000 square degrees of the Southern hemisphere in 5 bands (grizY). DES will use DECam, a ~3 square degrees/500 Megapixels camera on the primary focus of 4m telescope Blanco at CTIO. Besides dark energy, DES will be able to probe individual stellar populations in our Galaxy and integrated stellar populations in approximately 400 millions galaxies.
SDSS III is four surveys in one studying three themes. Using the 2.5m telescope at APO, it is observing spectra of galaxies, QSOs and stars to constrain dark energy and cosmological parameters (BOSS), study the Milk Way (SEGUE-2 and APOGEE), and discover planetary systems and brown dwarfs (MARVELS).
